Natures Best

Nature has provided us with the right criteria to raise the best beef, so that's what we do. We provide a ranch that they enjoy as much as we do. They eat as they please, no fat producing hormones to add extra weight for them to pack around requiring tougher muscle development to support it. A healthy environment of Canada's best hard varieties of Brome,Wheat grass, and Orchard grass are their natural foods growing in our fields. We graze them in a stress free environment. Morning Mist Ranch is a home for cattle they love. All this keeps the flavour as it should be.

There are no antibiotics given to our cattle that is sold to our customers as food. Cattle require help with health issues and need to go see the doctor just as we do. If they need antibiotics to help them get better that's ok for them, but not for the meat you eat, so we separate them from our food herd.

Our Angus cattle graze in a controlled environment so there are no herbicides or sprays as applied on roadside or government lands subject to open grazing which potentially allows them to eat all kinds of toxins.

Our Angus beef are from registered purebred bulls, with a good historic background of ancestors.

Your family and guests are special to you and so is your choice of meat they should eat. We provide you with that option, animals we know, how they were raised, what they were fed, and can tell you about that.

Few opportunities exist where you can ask a store where did this meat come from? What did it eat?

We sell our meat cut and wrapped after BC Government inspection.

We provide lean products and can finish some animals lightly with our select silage so you can choose what you need. Our finishing of select silage is controlled so that it does not destroy the natural most beneficial Omega 3's that the cattle ingested while grass grazing.

The Angus breed of cattle has naturally more marbling than others and therefore the most desired quality of meat. Grass fed beef is not what Canada's grading system was designed to represent. It is based on maximum marbling and maximum fat content, which we have learned is not the best for our health and probably not the steers or cows. That grading might have been good in the 1950's or 1960's. Nutrition starts here, its your choice to put healthy meals on your dinner table. Cattle under 30 months of age are the most tender, these are the types of cuts you eat in fine restaurants. They are almost exclusively the only place to get them , its just not usually grass fed. Our program develops lean meat, because you can buy fat in 1 pound blocks cheaper elsewhere, than from a meat cooler.

Winter brings snow and cold, to get our cattle through it, requires special care. It is possible to reduce rations, lean the animal over winter, and try to pack weight on again in the spring. We have a different philosophy, feed them higher nutrition food, thus allowing them to use some of the feed's calories to keep warmer and have consistent weight gains. We add Alberta grown alfalfa to the hay raising the value of their feed. Most cows are carrying their calves during this time, we think it is best to keep nutrition high so close to delivery time.
